Judge Part 2 and Ugly comments
OK......interesting that my last post should be about the judge and jury, etc. I had another post I was planning to write, but I happened to get a really NOT nice comment in my "in box." I've heard about people believing that their identity was discovered but I've not had this happen to me before. From this person's comment, you would deduce that he/she seemingly knows me. At least the comment is written that way. There are only a very few people who actually know my real identity -- on purpose. I have spoken with those people and am convinced that none of them authored the post nor told anyone else who I am. So that leaves me with a wicked comment. I thought about posting it. Fellow bloggers....what do you do? Do you post the mean ones?

nope
why give them ink?
Now that's a good question. The mean ones are out to be noticed, mostly. If you post them, you feed their ego. If you don't, you anger them.
So..

Don't mud wrestle with a pig. You only get covered with crap, and the pig likes it.
I think SC said it well. I don't know what I would do in your position, in mine I tend to call people out---I will try to deal with the issue in a private manner but if things continue and I feel I have not received satisfaction I react---usually wrong----I say think very carefully
i drafted a comment earlier but had to run. i'm not signed in, but maybe i don't want to be so your ugly writer won't write on my site either.
i don't moderate comments. i let freedom of speech reign and don't need to decide. but libelous and wicked comments would have to be removed. of course, i'd be the judge of that. it's my blog! (and google's, of course.)
don't worry about it. i guess we need to develop thicker skins in the public web sphere. if things get out of hand, it ought to be pretty easy to go after them. because our IP addresses ain't private!
take care :)
I agree. As the saying goes, "Don't feed the trolls".
Personally I reserve the abusive stuff for comment spammers, and myself. (I've been known to leave anonymous comments on my own blog saying how it's total crap, just between you and I. Don't tell.)
My comment threads are not a place for sombody to exercise their free speech. I am a totalitarian with an absolute power comments policy.
It's up to you. I've published some negative things before, but you also have the right not to. It's your blog. If you don't want that in your blog, delete it. That's your right.
I've never censored the comments. But I can see why others might.
I have deleted one or two before, where someone was mentioning a specific name or place that might be inappropriate or unsafe. My feeling is that I'm putting my thoughts out there for the world to see in a very public forum - it doesn't require membership or log in to view and read, I want for others to be able to not just *hear* what I'm saying, but feel they have an outlet to speak back.
At the end of the day, it's up to you and what makes you comfortable. Your blog - and if someone doesn't like that you screen the comments, then they don't have to come back!
Yikes! I am sorry you are going through this. I don't know what is wrong with people? It really upsets me. I agree with steel.
Hugs
Well, there are mean comments and then there are being "outed" comments. Those are two different things and the latter feels totally creepy IRL, because you feel like that mean person knows who you are. Ewwww. I'm sorry WFW. That totally sucks.
BUH-REER! it sounds like uve got a stalker on ur hands! ill come over and sniff out this crime scene and bite em in the butt. thats mi solution. i wouldnt post it. like all those other cowboys and moms and cats said: dont give them sumthing 2 enjoy. id make em angry...frankly..., so that then they would EVENTUALLY have 2 come out of doghouse and u can find out and be mad at them, and send me over 2 do some major butt-biting.
licks and love,
Maggie :)
